Jino is a Lolo (Yipho)-Burmese (Tibeto-Burman) language spoken in Xishuangbanna Autonomous district, Yunnan province, China. Jino has two main dialects, namely Youle and Buyuan. It is said that ninety percent of the speakers speaks Youle and the remainder Buyuan (Gai 1986). This paper is a preliminary study of the historical development of Youle Jino and is mainly accomplished through comparison with Lolo-Burmese (LB) languages and ProtoTibeto-Burman (PTB)/ Proto-Lolo-Burmese (PLB) forms.
