New York: Metropolitan Museum of Art. 1986. — 327 p. — ISBN-0-87099-475-1Van Gogh arrived in Saint-Remy in May 1889. There he voluntarily committed himself to an asylum, originally built as a monastery in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Initially, he depicted the interior environment, recreating for himself his room, a vestibule, the vaulted corridors of the old building. He also painted the asylum grounds, the park, and the walled field. Later he ventured beyond the asylum walls, his horizons extending to the surrounding landscape. He made copies after prints sent to him by his brother Theo. He copied the work of, among others, Delacroix, Daumier, and Miller.
