TheHawanan SentenceBook was designed to answer the requests of many people in the community who bought and were delighted by the Hawaiian Word Book, which was first printed in 1982. That first book is an excellent resource for parents and grandparents to teach youngsters numerous useful and important Hawaiian terms. Teachers and kUpuna in the Hawaiian Studies program were also quick to incorporate the vocabulary from that book into their lessons.
The Bess Press was informed on many occasions that another book was needed to follow up on the Hawaiian language learning that was taking place among children and adults using the Hawaiian Word Book This Hawaiian Sentence Book seeks to provide readers with numerous types of Hawaiian sentences related to the same pictures and vocabulary found in the first book
For every picture in this book, the reader will find two or more sentences using different structural patterns in Hawaiian. These structural patterns are described in more detail in the Introduction of this book Readers and students of Hawaiian language can use the Hawaiian SentenceBook to expand on the basic vocabulary offered in the Hawaiian Word Book and learn how to use that vocabulary to express themselves in more sophisticated Hawaiian phrases.
The sentences should be read out loud and practiced. Audio cassette tapes are available through the Bess Press that contain the words in the Hawaiian Word Book and the sentences found in this Hawaiian Sentence Book.
