The two volumes of The coal handbook present a systematic and comprehensive review of coal production and utilization in industrial applications, from power plants to steel and iron making, with emphasis on cleaner production. Volume 1 opens with chapters on coal characterization, with following sections addressing important coal extraction and preparation technologies and the coal supply chain. After an introductory section exploring the social and economic value of coal and emissions from coal utilization, Volume 2 concentrates on global coal production and coal use in industry.
