The geodynamic setting of the Central Andes - an active continental margin -has been investigated for more than 10 years. The combination of traditionalgeologic field work with modern geophysical instruments (e.g. seismics, magneto- tellurics, gravity) have led to a comprehensive insight in thispart of the Earth's crust.
